Black Truffle Popcorn

Yesterday I shared these gorgeous and totally insanely delicious Skinny Blood Orange Pomegranate Margaritas, and today I have a perfect snack to go with those.

This is what I am making for late night snacking while we play boardgames (aren’t we exciting!!) and drink cocktails. It is the perfect salty, savory snack without being to heavy. Plus the luxurious touch of black truffle makes it feel festive and decadent.

Our local grocery store had truffles in for the holidays and despite their panic inducing price tag ($400 a pound!!!!!) I asked for a price check and was surprised. I got one about the size of a golf ball and it was $15. Still not cheap, but this is going the distance on several recipes right now (plus they had small ones as inexpensive as $4 each). But if you can’t get your hands on one of these puppies- black truffle oil is perfect! (and they have been selling that at Trader Joes all through the Holidays). I also used this very cool black jewel popcorn (pictured above) that is so pretty.

Recipe: Black Truffle Popcorn

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • ½ cup popcorn kernels
  • 2 tablespoons black truffle oil
  • 2 teaspoons black truffle shavings (if available)
  • kosher salt

Instructions

  1. In a heavy pot, add the olive oil over medium heat and add the popcorn kernels.
  2. Put a lid on the pot and cook over medium heat, shaking occasionally. Cook until the kernels have stopped popping. Immediately transfer to a bowl. Drizzle with the truffle oil and if you are using the truffle shavings add those and a sprinkle of salt and toss the popcorn to distribute the truffle oil and the salt. Serve hot.
