Some like it hot! And I think they live here in Texas! Being a Seattle girl, I am like a fish out of water. Scampering into shadows and slathering SPF 100 on. I think Austin is going to be even hotter- How do you guys do it?? I have barely glimpsed Dallas, where I will be for a grand total of about 15 hours before I leave for Austin- but I like what I see!! Everyone is just so nice. My cab driver said “YEEEEEEE-HAAAWWWW!! WELCOME TO TEXAS!!” I love it!
But in all this heat, all I can think about is an icy cold drink…
And since I am obsessed with blueberries, and even more specifically with Blueberry Simple Syrup that’s the focus of today’s “Thirsty Thursday”! I have been putting the syrup in lemonade, mixing it with sparkling water for a fresh fruity spritzer and now I have doused it in tequila and grand marnier and made it dress up as a margarita. You won’t be sorry I did.
I served this up to a bunch of food bloggers a few weeks ago while we celebrated my friend Gaby’s Book release. We were busy eating chips and guacamole, so margaritas only seemed appropriate, right? Well they won happy reviews and an empty pitcher which is saying something with this group. So you can consider them endorsed.
In fact, this recipe is for two, but I would encourage a “batch” of these. I also think you have to adjust the sweet (blueberry syrup) and sour (lime juice) to suite your taste buds. Everyone likes it a little different, so use your preferences to experiment a little.
Speaking of margaritas, I am in Texas (for the very first time!!), so I fully intend to digest a bunch of them in the next few days. Any other suggestions for Dallas or Austin? If you are in the Dallas area, please tune in tomorrow AM to the “Good Day” show on Fox TV where I am going to do a segment on last minute dinner guests!
Love ya! XOXO, H

I’m in Dallas – WELCOME!!! If you have time to grab lunch and a marg before you head to Austin, I’d suggest Mr. Mesero! Hope you have a fun time, and I’ll be tuning in to watch you! 🙂
I’m so sad I won’t get to see you in Austin! may have to drown my sorrows in one (or 3) of these gorgeous margaritas!
My husband travels for work and one of his favorite road cities is Dallas, of course he hits a steak house of some kind!
This drink just looks lovely, I adore blue berries!
these were the BEST MARGARITAS EVER!!! You are the best – can’t wait to see you in a few hours 🙂
Love Thirsty Thursday~I will be making this drink for my Birthday today!
Thank you:-)
I could definitely use one of these later this week! Now, if I can just keep from eating every single blueberry before the weekend…
These are the most beeaaauutiful margaritas, and they sound absolutely amazing!
A stunning cocktail!!
My husband is from Texas. Though we have been married over thirty years he has never made me this. I think it is time y’all.
I think there is a problem with this recipe. You don’t give the recipe for the simple syrup. For the blueberry simple syrup, you just say to bring everything to a simmer but you don’t give the ingredients. I would love to make this – could you clarify? Thanks!
Hi Ellen. The Blueberry Simple Syrup is 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup blueberries, simmered for 5 minutes. You then use 1/4 cup of it in the recipe for the drink.
these were a hit! had such a great time with you in austin – hopefully we can meet up soon here in seattle! xo
The BEST tasting margarita ever hands down!!!
awesome denise!!!
Hi Heather -sounds delicious, since blueberries are out of season do you mean frozen ones? thanks, Tony
Yes! Just use frozen if you can’t get fresh!
These look amazing! I want to make these for Super Bowl tomorrow but don’t have Grand Marnier. Think Cointreau could be substituted? Thank you!
absolutely Megan!!
To die for!!! Thank you for the recipe.
this looks perfect for Australian summer….up to 40* +
