I know it’s only Tuesday, but I had to make sure that you had plenty of time to be inspired before Thirsty Thursday hits, right? So It comes in the form of one of my favorite cocktails of allllll time and a new video to get you in the mood!
It’s summer and it is HAWT in Seattle! and when it’s hot like this, I really want a margarita. Well, mostly I like them all the time, but especially in the summer.
Today I am sharing an old favorite from my first book The Generous Table, the Blackberry Jalapeno Margarita! Hopefully you are already knee deep in blackberry season where you are living? We are just venturing into ours and I just knew you would need to be armed with the perfect recipe when you bring home your first pint of the little midnight colored jewels!
This is one of my favorite recipes from the book and one that I still make for friends and party guests because it is so popular. A little sweet, a little sour and a little spicy, this is an epic margarita your friends wouldn’t forget soon either- enjoy!
Recipe: Blackberry Jalapeno Margaritas
Ingredients
- ¾ cup tequila
- ½ cup triple sec or grand marnier
- ½ cup freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1 cup blackberry Jalapeno Syrup (see below)
- ice cubes
- fresh blackberries and lime wedges for garnish
- For the Blackberry Jalapeno Syrup, (makes 1 ½ cups)
- 1 cup Sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup fresh or frozen blackberries
- 2 jalapeno peppers, minced
- Lime wedges
- Sugar for the rim
Instructions
- To make the syrup: Combine the sugar and water in a small pot and bring to a brief boil over medium heat.
- Transfer the syrup to a blender and add the blackberries and the jalapenos. Blend until smooth. To extract the seeds, pour through a fine mesh strainer into an airtight container or mason jar. Refrigerate for up to 1 week.
- To make the margaritas: Rim 4 glasses with a lime wedge and then dip them into a dish filled with sugar. Upright the glasses and fill them with ice.
- Fill a cocktail shaker with the tequila, triple sec, lime juice and 1 cup of the Blackberry Jalapeno syrup, plus a handful of ice. Shake vigorously and strain the margaritas into the prepared glasses.
- Garnish with fresh blackberries and lime wedges and serve.

OMG- that makes me SO excited!!! I hope that you are happy with them!
Also could I substitute honey instead of sugar?
Absolutely Shari! Please let us know how it turns out!
These were a hit last night when i had neighbors over for a birthday celebration! I fixed the simple syrup a day ahead of time. I made a little drink right then to try them out. LOVED the flavor but the drink itself was a little different consistency. It was just a bit thick. So last night i added just a touch of cranberry juice to the mix and it turned out great. Even my neighbor who is very picky about her cocktails went crazy over it! It calls for two jalapeños, but i did one and 1/2 because some of my guests didn’t care for a lot of heat. Next time though, i will for sure do two. Awesome recipe…..thank you for posting it!
What is the measurement for the blackberries ? Thanks.
Fabulous. I made a double batch of these for a dinner party over the weekend, and WOW! Everybody LOVED them! This one is definitely a keeper. Thanks for the terrific recipe! P.S. I used more economical frozen blackberries to make the syrup and used fresh ones for the garnish.
Sooooo good!! I had to stop myself from drinking it all in like 2 minutes.
My husband and I tried your recipe tonight and it was DIVINE! Thanks so much for sharing it! ❤
YAAY!!!!! thank you so much and I’m really happy you liked it!
Getting ready to try this delicious margarita recipe. My question is could I make a double batch in a pitcher and keep ready a little before company arrives?
