Today I am sharing this recipe for (super easy, super fast and super tasty!!) Spicy Cheese Breadsticks!
I thought this was the right time, as anyone that is having guests over in the next few weeks is looking for ideas that will save them time and also make a great impact in appearance and flavor. These breadsticks fit the bill.
They are kind of a cheaters snack, as I feel like I am just doctoring up puff pastry sheets. Oh, maybe that’s because I am.
I just roll out a sheet of puff pastry and press a combination of seeds and spices into the dough. That is followed by some finely shredded cheddar cheese. Then you simply slice and twist the dough. When you bake them you are left with delicious, flakey, hot and buttery breadsticks with little bits of melting cheese.
Besides being so tasty and convenient (great bar snacks!) they make for a pretty dramatic presentation- in a good way.
20 minutes (15 of which I spent scrolling through perezhilton.com while they baked) to amazing appetizers is my kind of deal!
Spicy Cheese Breadsticks, makes 8 breadsticks
1 sheet of puff pastry (2 come in a box)
½ cup finely shredded cheddar cheese
1 Tbs sesame seeds
1 Tbs poppy seeds
1 tsp fennel seeds
1 tsp kosher salt
¼ tsp cayenne pepper
flour for rolling out dough
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees, prepare a sheetpan with parchment or a silpat.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the sheet of puff pastry until it is quite thin.
In a small bowl, mix together all of the seeds and spices.
Sprinkle them over the dough.
Using a rolling pin, roll them into the dough.
Sprinkle the cheese over the dough.
Roll the cheese into the dough.
Slice the Dough into 8 even strips.
Twist from both ends of each dough strip so that the dough spirals into a breadstick.
Lay them on a sheetpan lined with parchment or a silpat.
Bake the breadsticks for 15 minutes until golden.
Let cool for a moment then transfer to a tall glass and fan out to serve.
Enjoy!
