I would first like to point out to you that I went a whole month and the only things I baked ALL MONTH had fruit and vegetables in them. So I consider that my “healthy month” promise was seriously fulfilled!! RIGHT!??
So what better way could there be than to fall off the wagon of health and into the swirling clouds of white sugar in spectacular fashion with these absurd cookies? Beer, Chocolate, Peanut and Pretzel Cookies. I baked them in honor of the upcoming Super Bowl, because what says sporting event like Beer, Peanuts and Pretzels? Add a little chocolate and a little cookie, and you have a little slice of heaven.
So this morning I talked Super Bowl on KING5 News in the Seattle Area. They started filming around 6 AM, but I had been up since 4AM preparing the festivities. Which would have been ok, except for that Pia came and got into bed with us at 12:30, and then every 15 minutes until 3:30AM she would wake me up to ask if it was time to get up yet and be on TV. I think it is fair to say that Pia is quite taken with the darling reporter Christie Johnson.
The other crazy thing is that Coco, who also joined us in the 7 o’clock hour proceeded to have a massive temper tantrum during one of our segments. They managed to somehow minimize it with the audio, but what you may have missed was Coco asking Pia to play with her, Pia saying no, that she was busy being on TV and Coco freaking out. Then I tried to kind of shove a chip in her mouth to be quiet and she screamed “OOOWWWWW!!!! MOOOOOM!!! YOU HUUUUURT ME!!! EEEOOOOOWWWWW!!!”
Then poor Christie tried to pick her up and she screamed” DOOOOON’T TOOOOUUUUCH MEEEEEE!!!”
Oh jeez. Then there was Pia in the background yelling “DAAAAAADDDDD, COCO IS SCREAMING WHILE MOM IS ON TEEEE-VEEEEEEE! DDDAAAAAAADDDDDDDD!!!! COME GET HER!!!!!!”
All this while I was trying to talk about snacks.
So I wanted to share this great cookie recipe with you, in case you need to meet any cookie cravings this weekend!
Also- here are some of the other recipes that I featured today:

Made these last night. We just happened to have a giant bag of peanut M & M’s around the house. Yum!
Oh good ANgela!! Well that was convenient craving timing!
I love these cookies in so many ways – and beer in a cookie clearly makes it a super bowl winner!
That is what I was thinking Lauren!
What a fun and loaded cookie!
this is most definitely the best way to fall off the wagon!! I love that there is BEER in these cookies! so brilliant 🙂
Thanks so much Julie!
Holy. Freakin’. Moly.
I don’t really know what else to say.
haha! I am going to think that is a good thing!?
Those cookies look amazing!
Thanks Kevin!!
first – love these cookies! I would totally eat all of them for breakfast right this very minute.
second – I wish I lived in Seattle so I could watch all of your TV segments!!
they are certainly always entertaining. the kids or the dog are forever interfering!
Fantastic cookie idea! I love that background too!
Finally! So glad you are off the wagon and back to baking. Sugar has got to be one of the basic food groups, right?!
Well at least you were able to finish the piece. 🙂 Love the cookies – beer? I’m there.
Mommy Dearest! haha … JUST KIDDING. Post the video, I missed it. Boo. Cookies look great with those big pretzel and peanut M’M’s in them and I like the pop of color too.
Love that you snuck the beer in these Heather!
This post was hilarious! Kids just know how to time those tantrums at the perfect moment to make you the most embarrassed, don’t they! I bet you did great, and these cookies look delicious!
Haha, this may be a stupid question. Are these okay for kids? Going to a party with mixed ages, and I know the alcohol usually cooks out, but just making sure so I don’t get in trouble lol
oh yes! there is like a few gulps worth of beer- the alcohol is barely there before they are baked- no worry at all!
Heather – that is too funny! Kids will embarass you EVERY time. Seriously, though, I saw the segment that they posted on the KING 5 website and you did an awesome job, especially for it being so early in the morning. I don’t know how you did it! BTW – did that reporter eat ALL the chili?
I love a good cookie recipe like this. Simple, colourful, and full of chocolate! Yum!
Made these today for some of my husband’s co-workers. I cannot wait to hear if they enjoy them. I love how the beer makes the batter “fizzy.” I was a little afraid the Guinness would overpower the cookies, but it DOESN”T at all. mmm mmm mmm
Oh, and I forgot to mention that I LOVE the pics of the cookies on your blog. I appreciate that you used the cookie sheets as the background! Very appetizing!
I don’t know how this worked for people- it did not for me. The cookies melted and burned on the bottom. Should this be made with 1 stick not 1 cup of butter? Should the sugar be brown sugar? Very sad these did not work!
Jordan- oh no!! It should be 1 CUP and white sugar. They do turn out very thin (like in the picture), but not melted, and they don’t burn. What type of pan did you use?? A non-stick by any chance? they tend to burn cookies. I can try to trouble shoot if you think of anything else that might have been different about the process for you?
I just made these delicious cookies, with a couple modifications, Instead of peanut M&Ms I used lightly salted peanuts. I like the texture combo of the peanuts and then the pretzel M&Ms. YUM! I noticed in the photo that these cookies are kind of flat, so to remedy that I used just a pinch more baking soda and made sure my dough was cold before I baked them. Using cold dough and a cold baking sheet for each batch gave me fluffier cookies. The Guinness flavor is great! I could also see this Guinness dough with chocolate and peanut butter chips…
