We have a had a nice quiet weekend here after I was gone all last week. We have been logging serious family time and I am totally trying to soak up this Christmas with the kids being this age. I feel like I just have a few more years to enjoy this really innocent, sweet age where they endlessly believe in the magic of Christmas. It is all about elves and Santa and wishing that it would snow (the odds aren’t good about the snow.)
I also took quite a trip to petco with Pia today. I have become a freak and I bought wilbur a reindeer costume. When I put him in it Pete just stared at it and then wen’t back to working. He couldn’t really say anything, but it was clear he isn’t into it. Spoiler alert mom!!! Pia bought Missy (my moms dog) the craziest outfit ever. it is a pink fluffy coat with a hood and pink crystals. It was either that or a Mrs. Claus outfit. If any of you dress up your dogs in Christmas Costume please tell me, or better yet, send me a picture!
Isn’t he so dang cute?
But one of the highlights of the weekend was baking with Pia. She is going in for another round of really cohesive food allergy testing tomorrow morning. But in order to accurately assess someones reactions to foods they have to ingest the foods before they are tested for them. So basically Pia got to have a free-for-all on her suspected allergic foods this weekend, and I let her pick whatever she wanted. This is what she chose. Nutella Cinnamon Rolls.
She has great taste. I used this super easy yeast dough as the base, and then slathered an entire container of nutella over the dough. We rolled it up and baked the rolls and then slathered them in a lovely coffee glaze. They were fluffy and chocolatey and the coffee and chocolate were the perfect topping. I am sharing these with you because I fell liek they would be a gorgeous treat for Christmas morning. Enjoy these courtesy of Pia!
To make these Nutella Rolls with Coffee Glaze, this is what you do:
When the dough is finished rising, preheat the oven to 375 degrees and prepare a sheet pan with a silpat or parchment paper.
Dust the countertop with a tiny bit of flour and roll the dough out into a big even rectangle.
Spread the nutella evenly over the top of the dough.
Gently roll the dough and nutella up into a log.
Slice the log into 12 rolls. Place them on the sheet pan and brush them all with the melted butter.
Drape a kitchen towel over the top of the nutella rolls and let them rise for 30 minutes. Bake the Nutella rolls for about 15 minutes or until golden.
Take them out and transfer them to a cooling rack. While they are cooling make the Coffee Glaze.
Whisk the coffee glaze ingredients together in a small bowl and drizzle the glaze over the rolls. Let them set up and then serve immediately.

Who doesn’t love Nutella?
Btw- my Yorkshire terriers (4 and 5 lbs. Respectively) would rip any costume you tried to put on them to shreds. Strangely though they will wear a coat. They somehow know the difference between a coat and a silly costume. Go figure! Good idea to start your dog off early in the costume department.
Oh. My. Word. SOOOOO cute!!! That puppy is precious!
I just love this recipe and can’t wait to make it!
Oh my goodness – that glaaaaze! These look so good!
I could go for a few of these right now! They might improve my Monday. Baby it’s cold out there!
Oh my! I love the idea of putting nutella in a cinamon roll!
Oh my, these look sooo good! And your little pup… I understand! I would like to do the same thing with my little rabbits. π Enjoy this time with your children and the magic of Christmas!
If you dress those rabbits up, please, PLEASE send a picture!!
I could never get tired of these. Sweet heavenly bliss!
A perfect holiday breakfast!
We had a ton of snow here in NYC over the weekend, and I’m sending some snow wishes your way right now π
These rolls look amazing, Heather! Totally perfect for Christmas morning!
Thank you Ashley!! We can hope!
These sound sooooo good right now Heather, wish they were sitting in front of me π xoxo
WOW! These look awesome!
I am drooling over here!! This look amazing!
Your pup is soooooo cute!! These rolls are the ultimate treat!
Smart girl to choose Nutella rolls, these look glorious!
Thanks Laura- Nutella is Pia’s absolute favorite. She could just take a spoon to the jar!
I’m with Pia on the nutella! I’ve been known to attack a jar with just a spoon myself! Enjoy your time with your girls, they are at such a perfect age. I miss my babies being little. Treasure it, it goes way too fast!
I hope Pia figures out what she’s allergic to quickly! I have to say eating these things has to be the best part of the allergy testing!
I’ll trade you my snow for your cinnamon rollsβ¦.deal? Best of luck with Pia. I hope you get this thing figured out soon.
Oh man, these look amazing. My love for nutella and coffee know no bounds, and combining them is totally genius!
These look amazing. Question: do I make the full recipe of clover leaf roll dough, or the half recipe?
Thanks!
Photogirl- Sorry, I can see how that is a little confusing. You want to make exactly the recipe that is provided in the link, (which does happen to be a half of the original recipe!). It would make 18 clover leaf rolls, or in this case 12 nutella rolls.
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply, Heather. I made these yesterday and they are delicious!
I posted a photo on Instagram and tagged you there.
I’m going to try the Clover Leaf version of the rolls for Easter.
So I hate to sound stupid but I can’t seem to get the recipe for the coffee glaze. Any suggestions?
Tracy- not at all! the coffee glaze in the ingredients is not a link it just preludes the ingredients. So everything below that goes into the coffee glaze. Hope that makes sense!
Since I am Mormon and coffee isn’t allowed, any suggestions on something to use in place of the coffee that would still blend well with this yummy roll? Thanks for your time. Hope you have a Merry Christmas.
Hi Robin- I would just add a little vanilla extract and replace the coffee with milk π
Help! I’m in the process of making a batch now, and I am supposed to make another 3 batches tomorrow. My dough was VERY sticky and it was super difficult to even spread the nutella because the dough wanted to move with it. To roll it into a log was very tricky, because it was so heavy and blobby… Slicing it was messy and it looks NOTHING like your beautiful photos. Should I add more flour next time? If so, in what stage would you suggest? I live in Miami, so perhaps the heat and humidity play a part? Help! I’ll update you when they finish cooking…now the rolls are rising under the kitchen towel.
Christy! Oh no! Yes- add more flour until it is manageable- but too much flour and it will be tough. I’m so sorry- it is really hard to troubleshoot when I am not in the kitchen with you. Can you let me know how that first batch turned out?
I made these this morning to practice for an Easter brunch. Oh ….. my …… word. These are perfect. My oven runs a little hot, so I did have to adjust the temp and cooking time, but I’m sure that’s just me (know your ovens, people!). The only other things I’ll note: I ended up with 18 large rolls (though I’m not complaining about that), and my glaze mix was a little too dry, so I added more coffee (instead of more cream). That was the right decision. The flavors of nutella and coffee were both strong and distinct and perfect. I had to send them to work with my husband, because I knew I’d eat them all day long otherwise. They were a winner, and I’ll be making them for Easter brunch.
