Ok- I am posting this as I wait eagerly for my Cutthroat Kitchen episode to air. I have to wait patiently as the East Coast has watched it, and now the Midwest and in a few more hours my daughters will get to see the show they have been waiting eagerly for the last 4 months since I filmed it. So I am doing the natural thing- stress eating. Like everything. Including the leftovers I have in the fridge. Including this BBQ Turkey Breast with Blackberry Jalapeno Sauce.
Are you guys all on the same BBQ high that I am on? We are just burning through the propane over here- BBQing everything under the sun. Including Turkey.
Turkey is one of my favorite proteins, and it is super underrated. Normally people just roast one on Thanksgiving, but Turkey has lots of summery possibilities too! When you think about that delicious classic combination of turkey and cranberry sauce- it is really about the sweet and sour flavors. I decided to essentially make a summer version of Turkey with Cranberry Sauce.
And it features a juicy BBQed turkey breast (very easy!!) and maybe the most delicious thing you have ever had: Blackberry Jalapeno Sauce. I could drink it. I could bathe in it. I could and did eat it by the spoonful. You have sweet fruity flavors, a little tart and a wonderful slow burn that compliments the smokiness of the turkey.
This is like Sunday dinner material it’s so freaking good….
Ok. I will post a CTK update after the show airs tonight, but I don’t want to spoil the outcome in the mean time….
Recipe: BBQ Turkey with Blackberry Jalapeno Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 sweet yellow onion, chopped
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup blackberries
- 1 jalapeno, chopped
- salt
- 1 cup blackberries for garnish
- turkey breast (mine was about 4 pounds)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Kosher salt
Instructions
- Preheat the grill to medium.
- Rub the Turkey breast with the olive oil and sprinkle generously with kosher salt.
- Place the Turkey, breast up, in the center of the BBQ. Cook the turkey at least 11 minutes per pound. So I cooked mine about 45 minutes until the thermometer registered 180 degrees. Watch it carefully though- as all BBQ’s seem to run differently, you will want to to keep your eye’s on it. Move the Turkey to the cooler spots on the BBQ if it starts to cook too quickly.
- Let the Turkey rest for about 15 minutes while you make the sauce.
- In a small sauté pan over medium heat, add the olive oil and the yellow onion and jalapeño and cook until the onion is soft and translucent, 5-7 minutes.
- Transfer the onions to the jar of a blender and add the blackberries and. Puree on high until smooth. Season to taste with Kosher salt.
- Slice the Turkey breast and serve warm with the sauce and fresh blackberries for garnish.

Congrats, girl! I thought you did great! And being on the show was a smart marketing move, as it drove me to your blog immediately. (Did anyone ever tell you that you look a bit like Marcia Cross, the actress who was on Desperate Housewives?)
Hi Robin! Welcome! Thank you so much 🙂 Um, yes- I am told that is my celebrity look alike. I wish! Hope I will see you round the blog…
I want that blackberry jalepeno sauce on everything! 🙂

Can’t wait to watch it tonight! Even though everyone’s been talking about the results and you winning it (haha spoiler alert?!), I’m still going to watch to see how you beat out everyone!! Yay!!! Maybe I’ll make this dish on the side while I watch!

This looks yummy! I made your Salmon with Cherry/honey/balsamic sauce last week and it was AMAZING- I am usually not a sauce cooking kind of girl but you have forever changed that! I am bummed that I missed you on CTK last night and hope they have a re-run tonight!!
Love this and trying this recipe this weekend when the Grandkids arrive on Balboa Island.
Thanks Sally
What do you do with the jalapeno? – Seems like a step is missing?
