I am in withdrawal. I have been checked out the last few weeks, and I miss my kitchen, my house, my garden and my comfortable routine of posting ideas for you guys. I miss my kids on the counter, and clipping flowers out of the garden every night.
We went on a family vacation (more posts on that later) that was bookended with work trips. It was lovely/busy, and it was all very exciting! (did anyone catch my interview on Martha Stewart radio?!) But no matter what, there is no place like home.
So, in case you were wondering why my posts have been a little spotty or few and far between lately, that’s why! But one of the beauties of vacation is that you come back refreshed and inspired and ready to get back to your projects with a renewed energy!
I am writing this perched on my kitchen counter, where I suspect I will be spending a lot of time in the next few weeks, doubling up on my cooking time. We have Fathers day on Sunday, the fourth of July coming up and a whole summers worth of entertaining and great eating to get started on!
Please, if you have any party questions, entertaining conundrums or recipe requests, let me know! I would love to know what kinds of events you have planned for the summer, and what I can do to help you throw the best parties and prepare the tastiest meals yet!
I am also starting to work on some exciting projects involving tablescapes, party advice and lots of recipes! More details to come later…
Ok, I guess I better get cooking? Please look for a new recipe on Friday- I promise it will be something good! XO, Heather

Glad you’re enjoying your vacation! See ya Friday 🙂
Thanks Katrina 🙂
I am the next host for our supper club and need to get something planned very soon. This will be my first time hosting and I’d like to do at least a portion of the evening outside on our porch or in our back yard. We have a total of four couples and 3 of the 8 people are vegetarians. Any menu ideas? Thanks!
this is a great one! let me think on it and I will get back to you asap 🙂
Oh darn! I missed the radio interview. Is it available on line anywhere? Was it fun to meet Martha? I would very much appreciate picnic ideas both for kids and adults.
Picnic Ideas are brilliant!!!
Awesome, Heather! Way to go with the Martha Stuart chat!
Picnic ideas do sound amazing. Please do! I love any excuse to eat outside.
thanks Jen!
Martha Stewart Radio? How cool is that?! Welcome home 🙂
I do believe you are the NEW Martha in my life.
Click your heels and say, “there’s no place like home….there’s no place like home…”
XXOO
oh Vicki I just adore you!
What would you bring to a pig roast? The pig, potato salad and coleslaw already will be there. Need to bring an app or side dish.
I am getting ready to make a rhubarb pie for Father’s Day, and would love to know if you do anything ‘heather’ special with rhubard.
Also, really looking for a really good homemade applesauce recipe that I can jar for the kids. Thanks!
Hi Shelley! These are my thoughts about Rhubarb. I do add sugar, but not a ton. I love the natural sourness of the rhubarb. I think that is where adding another fruit can bring the sweetness without adding much sugar (like I just made a rhubarb raspberry crostada.) But if you are going for straight rhubarb- I think adding the rhubarb raw is smart, (when I have tried to pre-cook it, it is sooooo runny) But also tossing the rhubarb with some AP flour to soak up some of the extra juice without the gumminess of adding cornstarch. Also rhubarb seriously reduces in quantity when cooked, so really pile it on!
Applesauce is so great. I will get into that as more fresh apples come into season. I love applesauce 🙂
