Silver Holiday Table Decor
Holiday Table Decor

Hi guys. I told you that I was going to be posting a bunch of table décor ideas for Thanksgiving and Christmas over the next few weeks. Well, I guess it is going to be starting today.

Holiday Table Decor

I did a local show yesterday, and they wanted me to do a Holiday themed table. But I was thinking about how when you have to entertain for Thanksgiving, Chanukah, Christmas, New Years, (I know people who do them all!) it gets super expensive and sucks all of your creative brain power trying to do new stuff each time. So I came up with ONE table ladies and gentleman that can do double, or even triple duty! It is non-holiday specific! So could also be used for any other Holidays I may have missed, or trickle appropriately all the way through February. I think of it more as a “winter wonderland.” Is that corny? Probably. I am ok with a little corn.

I think this is a very glamorous and table and I love that it is so economical! It uses a lot of natural elements (read:cheap), but it feels very festive with all of the silver paint (read:crafty!) My favorite part is the “tree.” I am typically against tall centerpieces- cause you can’t even talk or see over the arrangement, but this one is so dang tall, that it really creates a canopy above the table. It’s magical. (again, too corny?- it really is though! Try it.)

The tree branches, I cut out of the Dogwood tree in my back yard (it is time for some thinning in the fall anyways!) They were spray painted silver and piled into a tall clear cylinder vase.

I used some non-Christmasy ornaments (icicles) to dangle from the branches, and perched little glass birds in the branches.

My mom, who is borrowing this for Christmas eve, said that she will drape it with Christmas tree beads- CLEVER. I guess the point is, that you can make it totally unique with your favorite style of ornaments and colors.

No we get to the centerpiece! Whole nuts in the shell, which run a couple dollars a pound (I used 10 lbs worth) look very glam when piled around the rest of the centerpiece. They are also great for nestling votives in and for reflecting candlelight. To make these, you fill a double thick paper bag with a couple pounds of nuts at a time.

Wear plastic gloves! Spray a metallic spray paint into the bag, and shake the nuts to coat. Repeat this over and over again until the nuts are covered in metallic paint. Spread them on paper to dry. (For 10lbs of nuts = 2 cans of spray paint)

I love flowers. I don’t love how expensive they are in the middle of winter. The prices get higher, and the bunches get smaller and less available. My solution is Baby’s Breath! Two large bunches, (about $10 dollars worth) that can be left out of the water, (you want them to dry.) Spray paint them with a thin coat of silver spray paint. I like to follow that up with a coat of silver glitter spray paint for a frozen effect.

Let the baby’s breath dry over night and then arrange in a bowl or vases to show off how puffy and glittery they are.

I am bringing back “floating candles” for this table! The vases with the sequined appliqués are a great trick! You just use the most basic of vases or votive candle holders and using craft glue, you adhere an appliqué.

At sewing and craft stores there are tons of them, (and also a wonderful selection on line.) These were so pretty that I just floated some white candles in them for extra glimmer, but they are also very pretty with an arrangement in them. The variety of appliqués is so fantastic, that you could use this crafty trick for any theme.

Other Table décor details: I really wanted to enhance the very plain Lenox wedding china that we have, (and I think a lot of couples have!) Instead of seeing it as “plain” I decided to build everything around the creamy silver colors, and came up with this winter wonderland theme. Mercury candlesticks and silver votives, silver Chargers with silver and white dishes. Clear lucite flatware and unique silver accented glassware, including shooting star champagne glasses and silver ombre water glasses.

Look for the perfect cocktail to go with this on Friday. The snowball martini….
