Ohmagod. Like nutella? Like banana’s? Like fried food?
If you said no to any of those, I’m not totally sure how to deal with you, and you should probably not stay. If you liked even 2 out of 3, stay and let’s talk.
We can talk about how nutella is better when hot and gooey. And how that hot and gooey nutella makes the bananas out of this world. And when they are packaged up in a crispy, sugary blanket? Well, I can’t say enough about these.
I know that going to the trouble of deep frying something is serious, but these are seriously good. Seriously.
I have actually made these several times over the last few months, but I saved these to post this week, because it is a va-va-va-voom dessert. It is exactly the kind of dessert I would want to make for my man or for a romantic Valentines Day dinner, but is also the exact kind of dessert my kids would be happy with if were sharing the “holiday” with them instead. So either way, I’m pretty sure you are covered.
I also feel like this would be a really fun dessert if you were having friends for dinner. Mine would freak out.
If you want to make them, here is what you do:
Roll out the pie crust to 1/8th inch thick. Use a 4” round cookie cutter to make circles of pie dough.
Top with 1 tablespoon of nutella and a few pieces of sliced banana.
Brush the beaten egg around the edge of the pie crust and then fold it over and very gently use a fork to pinch the edges together without breaking through the pie crust. Chill in the refrigerator until ready to fry.
Bring the vegetable oil up to 375 degrees in a large heavy pot. Gently add the pies, a few at a time, to the hot oil and gently fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
Gently remove from the oil with a slotted spoon or strainer. Quickly drain on a paper towel.
Generously sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve hot. (these stay hot for a long time!)

I don’t usually fry but these would be SO worth it!
I LOVE this idea! These look fabulous!
This needs to happen in my life soon. Wow girl, you are so darn creative!!
Yes times 1000! These are perfect 🙂
so simple and so good!
Oh my word!! These are going on the weekend menu!
Oh. My. Gosh. These just stopped me in my tracks and I swear I just sat staring at these little gems. I don’t know how you come up with these endless supplies of goodies. Deep fat frying kinda terrifies me Would these work in the oven?
holy bananas. I need this immediately. Get the guest room ready – I’m coming to visit!!!
omg just look at that gooey amazingness on the inside. i love that you took it to the next level and fried this instead of just baking it!!
Would love a few of these in my hands and tucked inside my coat pockets for the chair lift 😉
I am going to need a dozen, pretty please 🙂
Oh maaaaa gawd! (sounds you’d have heard me saying when I saw your pics and recipe).. I need to try this asap!
Yummy! I tried some deep frying this weekend, too. Did you use a thermometer at all? I want nutella right now!!
yes- I did- I am not pro enough at frying to eyeball it!
Yum these look amazing!
What about strawberries ?? I think it would work but I’m new to frying
Yes- strawberries would be totally delicious!!
What about leftovers?? Refridgerate or is it okay to leave it out??
oh. I would think it is ok to leave out? Maybe stick in a tupperware?
If deep frying isn’t an option, could these be baked?
yes Veni! For sure- I would just brush them with a little egg wash or cream and bake at 400 for like 15 minutes until golden.
I’ve tried to make this but when I put the dough in the oil it immediately dissolved and it all fell apart. Could anyone give me a recipe for the dough that would withhold the frying.
Thanks
How to make pie crust plsss
I actually fried these before and the Nutella gets hard and crumbles when heated up. Maybe my heat was too high- so i lowered the heat and it still came out not good…the outside took a bit to get cooked and by the time it cooked the inside was powder or hard inside
This is so much similar to the indian version we make at home during festivals. Instead of egg wash we use water. and the filling is roasted semolina, sugar and dry fruits like almonds, pistachios, rasins and cashews and for a goey effect, we add condensed milk instead of the semolina and sugar part.
Tastes yumm and the shelf like is better in the semolina version coz of all the dry ingredients used 🙂
These look so yummy! One question though: I’m based in the UK and thus not familiar with the term “pie crust” –> the WWW tells it’s shortcrust pastry, but from the pictures I’d say it’s more puff pastry? Also, deepfrying shortcrust pastry sounds weird. can you solve the mystery for me? thanks!
It is pie crust Miriam- not shortbread and not puff pastry- it is like an elastic pie crust that you would bake an apple pie with? Does that help!? I’m so sorry if I am not doing a good job explaining!
Oh my, this sounds so good. Love nutella. Thanks for sharing this.
Simon
May I please have the recipe for the pastry please? I would love to mke these for my nieces and nephews. Thanks in advance
