Happy #ThirstyThursday!! It has been a while since I was in the #ThirstyThursday kick, but it’s baaaaack!
And just in time for Blood Orange Season. My last luscious drink was this concoction, and I couldn’t leave the blood orange love alone.
I actually made this drink up with my mother-in-law in mind. She doesn’t drink often, but when she does she will order a screwdriver. I am always surprised, not at her order- but at myself for never thinking to order a screwdriver! It is such an awesome combination of cold crisp vodka and sweet and tart refreshing orange juice- it’s just kind of a perfect cocktail.
So I had to just amp things up a bit by subbing in blood orange juice (because it is just TOO pretty!) and then I added a touch of rosemary, which adds just a bit more dimension and flavor- a lovely touch. Enjoy!

Looks so festive! Happy New Year 🙂
Thanks Kiran! Happy new year to you too!
Hi Heather,
Thanks for this one !! I have two blood orange trees in my yard here in Palm Springs . Susan J mentioned using gin. You must try the New Amsterdam Gin for this, as it has citrus for the botanicals and little or no juniper. I think it will be perfect if you are not using a Vodka. Love the rosemary touch…got lots of that, too.
Can’t wait to try this, Cheers.
Hi Heather! If it were up to me, all oranges would be blood oranges! Love the twist on a classic cocktail (especially the rosemary). I’ve been experimenting with flavored simple syrups recently, so I think I may try a batch of blood orange rosemary syrup next. Thanks for the inspiration!
Sounds wonderful Evan! I am obsessed with flavored syrups as well- and I agree that it would be a perfect flavor for one- also, can you imagine the color!?
Gorgeous cocktail! I wish I liked vodka, as you have made me want a drink now and it is only 6 am! HA. Thinking I need to give this a try with gin, and I love all of the other flavors involved and they make for a great flavor combination.
DEnise- this would be awesome with gin- or tequila! let me know if you try!
Hi Heather, I know you are a Vodka girl but this drink is also great with Gin ( the drink that makes you feisty). It also gives you just a little bite, which Gin loves like! Mom
I think this drink needs to happen this weekend! I love the blood orange and rosemary combo!
Perfection!! Love that I have everything for this drink, too. Cheers!
Your cocktails are always so amazing! I could have one hell of a night with these – ha!
I’m obsessed with blood orange! I could use a few of these right about now!
