Is anyone out there sick? Essentially the plague has swept over Seattle and almost every family I know is battling some type of crud. Our children have been a mess this week, and Pia is getting over strep.
Pete and I usually take a 3 prong approach to preventing and fighting off sickness:
1) Vitamins. I take high doses of C, D and go get a vitamin B cocktail injection (these are phenomenal by the way!)
2) Spicy Food. Mostly, things like Pho noodle soup with a significant amount of sriracha, 5-star Thai food or Indian food that makes you tear up from spice. You get the picture.
3) Booze. Something brown like Whiskey or Bourbon.
So I am filling in the blank on #3 today with these Blood Orange Pomegranate Whiskey Sours. Plus they are packed with antioxidants and vitamin C- kind of a win-win, right?!
So whether you are fight off the plague or just like whiskey (who can blame you?!) this is so simple to make and totally delicious. Plus I love the seasonal citrus and sweet/bitter pomegranate seeds with the dark liquor- now excuse me while I go mix myself one and settle in to kill germs through sipping!
- 3 ounces whiskey (I used Makers Mark 46)
- 12 ounces cold blood orange soda
- 1 ounce cold pomegranate juice
- blood orange slices and pomegranate seeds (optional)
- Ice
- Fill the two glasses with ice and the orange slice. Add the whiskey and then top with cold blood orange soda and float the pomegranate juice on top and sprinkle with pomegranate seeds. Serve immediately.

This looks delish! Where do you find blood orange soda and brand?
Hi Thea! I use Natural Organics sparkling blood orange juice or san pellegrino blood orange soda in a can!
Ugh, yes – I am so battling the dreaded crud, and this bright and boozy drink is just the medicine I need! 🙂
