Happy Thanksgiving!!!
I hope you are having a great and very fun and busy day filled with friends, family and great food and drinks!
Just in case any of you are still scouring the internet looking for last minute ideas for this afternoon, or you happen to be in charge of the booze- these mojito’s are out of this world!
Festive, terribly beautiful and flavorful- these Blood Orange Ginger Cranberry Mojitos are a wonderful addition to your cocktail hour. We always set up a bar, but I also love having a signature cocktail which feels special.
Plus these are really easy to pull together, especially if you make the simple syrup ahead of time.
The flavors of orange, cranberry and ginger are laced with mint and lime, and they all come together in an amazing combination of flavors that is distinctly holiday and not too sweet.
This recipe is for four individual cocktails, but I think you could double or triple this recipe and make it in a large pitcher if you are serving a crowd. As the recipe gets bigger, just tweak the amounts to taste.
- 1 cup fresh lightly packed mint leaves
- 2 limes, sliced in wedges
- 8 ounces white rum
- Blood Orange Soda (San Pellegrino makes a great one)
- 1 cup unsweetened pure cranberry juice
- ice cubes
- mint leaves, lime wedges and fresh blueberries for garnish
- Ginger Simple Syrup,
- 1 knob of peeled raw ginger, about 2” long
- ½ cup water
- ½ cup sugar
- sugar rim:
- lime wedge
- brown sugar
- Garnish: fresh mint, cranberries and slivers of candied ginger
- For the Ginger simple syrup:
- In a small pan, combine the ginger, sugar and water and bring to a simmer, stirring until the sugar is dissolved, about 2 minutes. Then set aside to chill. You can make this ahead of time.
- For the Sugar rim:
- Rub the rims of the glasses with a lime wedge and then gently coat them in brown sugar. Let them dry as you get together the ingredients for the drinks.
- To make the Mojitos:
- In the bottom of four heavy highball glasses, divide the mint and lime wedges evenly between the four glasses, 2 tablespoons simple syrup to each glass and use a muddler to smash them all together and release the mint oil and lime juice.
- Add ice cubes, rum and blood orange soda to fill the glass most of the way. Put a floater of cranberry juice on the top (a couple tablespoons) You could serve as is (I love the look of the floater and the two different colors) or stir them together.
- Garnish with fresh mint, cranberries and candied ginger.
How much of the simple syrup goes in each drink? I made the simple syrup and now indoor know how much to use??
Thank you Lois! Good catch! It’s all fixed up!
Awesome holiday cheer!
Happy Thanksgiving
Did you remove the lime? I isn’t visible in the photo.
you dont need to!
Can you make this Virgin? What would you change other than the rim Ofcourse?
Thats it! Just ditch the booze 🙂
This looks so good! What a great drink to have on the menu for Christmas get togethers!
Thanks for sharing! How far ahead of time can I make them?
For the ginger syrup do you remove the chucks of Ginger after cooking or to you emulsify them?
I leave the chunks in the syrup in the fridge, but do not add them to the drink.
This looks so good! What a great drink to make for a holiday party!
Thanks for sharing! How far ahead of time can I make it?
Served these last night. Followed the recipe closely. Cocktails were delicious and enjoyed by all our guests.
Made these twice this year, once for Thanksgiving and then for another get together a few days after. They were very popular! For the simple syrup, I infused it with the ginger as well as some mint leaves, and once it cooled, I blended and strained it to remove any pulp, and added it to the drink. The flavor was a lot stronger this way and I think it balanced out the drink better. Delicious and unique recipe for the holidays
