Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale Finds
Well, it’s that time of year again guys, It’s the Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale!
I totally get it that this year is different. I know it is for me. For lots of people this sale is not something that is relevant this year, and I know that the differences between a year ago and now could not be more day and night in my own life. (I have been sharing on social media- but I owe you guys a blog post about all of the many changes for the Christo family.) But after all of the gift guides I did last Christmas I got several requests for my Nordstrom’s Sale picks so I decided to share. This is just meant for anyone who uses this annual Nordstroms sale as a good time to stock up on deals, and do some back to school shopping. Of course, the thing is that our lives and “back to school” just looks entirely different for us this year. Both girls are doing complete homeschool this full school year, we moved to a different country for a while and are in the middle of a global pandemic, sooooo there’s that….
The other reality is because of the current circumstances, we need less and different types of items this year- some of you may feel the same way. I know every family has different ways that they are living through this pandemic, but with a high-risk child, we really just mostly stay home! So I thought we would share the REAL stuff we are getting. It’s the stay at home, cozy stuff that works for our real life this year! I would love to know how you are thinking about clothing purchases this year, and what your pandemic gear looks like! Anyone else doing back to school shopping for homeschool or remote learning?
First up is the stuff I am in interested in:
Smart Garden 9 Self watering indoor garden. I know that this is kind of funny, but the thing I am missing the most about jumping around in rentals is my herb garden and edible flowers. The selection of fresh herbs in most of the grocery stores I have been to is modest, so I was thinking that this option looks good for growing a few favorite essentials- especially for the dark days of fall and winter up here. Then I did some research on Amazon- and this is a really good price!!
Shoes:
Ugg Chayze Platform Sneaker. I love the Lava color and I have bought Ugg shoes before that were similar and they were exceptionally comfortable.
Hunter original leopard print Chelsea rain boot. I just had to add these because I bought a pair a couple years ago and I still wear them ALL the time. When I am on set during the week, all I do is walk through the rain back and forth from Coco’s trailer to the set all day long- and it is seriously, seriously wet in both BC and Seattle 6 months of the year. These boots have made it easy and I think they are so cute. Coco has the same pair (she grew into them- they were Pia’s originally) and also loves them. Great for running errands or just living in any climate where you battle inclement weather.
Dr Scholls Platform Shoe in Leopard. Um, I had to question myself and ask Pia if I was insane and were these really cute. She agreed they were. I admit the Dr Scholls part made me question myself, LOL! But no, I stand by my original assessment- I’m getting them. I feel like they will be cute with leggings and cropped jeans if I can ever fit back in mine 🙂 And if they are Dr Scholls- then I think we all know they must be comfortable!
Accessories:
Missoni Zig Zag wool scarf. I don’t have to have this, but I just thought that this was so fun and it made me smile. I love color, and pattern on pattern and I feel like this scarf could tie together lots of different pieces and colorful coats I have.
Clare V Midi leopard print crossover bag. I am a typically a big bag girl. Like I love enormous totes- the bigger the better! But what I found over the last few months, is that when I go out, the last thing I want to do is take anything outside of the essentials with me to lessen my risks. For me that looks like ID, credit card, Keys, Mask and hand sanitizer. So I just need a small bag and I love that a cross over bag leaves you hands free. I have been rocking a little BRIGHT pink version but I need something toned down for fall and winter. I love this subtle olive green leopard print paired with my favorite orange strap. Great size, and what a deal!
Gucci Aviator Sunglasses. I love these. These are a very cool combo of aviator style and 70’s style and since I rarely wear eye makeup- sunglasses have become very important! The little red trim is amazing.
Here are some pieces of Cozy Gear:
Cable Sleeve Cardigan. Pia and I both wanted this equally, which is saying something.
Free People Afterglow Mock Neck Sweater. I bought this in a bright yellow last year and wore it all the time. This year I am going for white and maybe black too. It’s massively oversized, but in an intentionally stylish way- I wore it with leather leggings and boots or sneakers for an instant easy, comfortable and stylish outfit. Plus it’s really warm and great for cold weather.
Calson Turtleneck Sweater in Ivory Pristine. I bought a cardigan in this color and fabric last year and it is my go to cozy weekend morning wear. I wrap it around my pajamas, and happily wear it like a blanket. All that is to say that the fabric is extra soft and has worn well. I think the ivory color looks more expensive and will go with ton.
Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Lite Long Cardigan. They make a couple different varieties on the long cardigan, but this one had the best reviews by far and looks the most streamlined. Great with leggings and longer cut t shirts. I’m going for it.
LAYERING TEE”S (long sleeve)
LAYERING TEE”S (short sleeve)
Caslon Rounded V-neck Tshirts. I bought these in three colors last year and still wear them all the time. A great fit and long enough for tall people. I just need to replace my white ones, because my deodorant turned the color on the arm pits a little
I’m sorry, I don’t know about you, but if the last 6 months have taught me anything, it’s that I need more comfortable bras for quarantining. I like that this is supportive, keeps a nice shape for tshirts, and has no underwire!! This Bralette also looks super comfortable!
Faux Leather Leggings. I have to admit, I bought and wore these all the time last winter. In fact, I wore and washed them too much and now I need another pair. I wear them massively layered with long sleeved t-shirts, denim shirts, big sweaters and coats and then with boots or sneakers. I am still in my anti-jeans phase so these were really easy and look more pulled together than yoga pants.
One Frivolous Item:
Theory Skinny Faux Leather Pencil Skirt. I guess this is the one frivolous item that I thought looked quite polished. I actually love that it is faux leather, but does not look plastic- it still looks luxe. I am on the fence (because like where am I going to wear it this year?) But it’s classic and timeless, so may be worth it for a save.
Ok, if you know me IRL, you know I am a beauty product/makeup/skincare addict. So the last few months have been weird for me on that front. I guess it’s really just been about minimal skincare and almost no makeup (Who am I even!!!???) But I still managed to find a few things that are practical and I want. I included a couple splurge items that may interest you as well.
Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Body Cream. This is my favorite body cream. I always get a bottle in my stocking and it usually lasts me forever- but with quarantine, I am being even more diligent than ever with applying, so I am almost out. Just in time for this beauty to be a part of the sale this year! If you need more specific help for very dry hands (hello hand sanitizer overload) try this thick, rich Kiehl’s Ultimate Strength Hand Salve.
Olaplex. I am a big fan of these products. I have fine/curly/frizzy/ color treated hair and it really polishes things up for me. Also, Coco, who has very thick, wavy, coarse hair that gets heavily heat damaged and styled during shooting loves this too. We noticed a major difference for her hair when she switched, so we use this during her filming season.
Anastasia Brow Bae-sics did peak my interest. I have found that I rarely wear full makeup anymore (a HUGE change for me) but even when I just do my skin care, I often do a little brow so that I look *slightly* more polished. At least I tell myself that. This duo happens to be exactly what I use, so I will be stocking up on a set. Same with the Pillow Talk set from Charlotte Tilbury. I always find it hard to find the perfect neutral pink lip and this is my favorite perfect color and it comes in all mediums (pencil, creme and gloss.)
St Tropez Express Self Tanner. I love this self tanner and I think that the Express fades way more evenly than the original- plus it takes a fraction of the time to work- a win/win. This is hugely on sale!
SPLURGES!!
Skincare Fullsize DRx Spectralite Face Ware Pro LED Light Therapy Device Set. I am considering this splurge. The reviews are pretty good- anyone tried this? I mean, I feel like I could use all the collagen I can get right now, and Pia and Coco would like the blue light setting for breakouts. So it’s a family investment!? hmmmm….
NuFace White Trinity Facial Toning Device. I own this so had to at least mention that if you are thinking about it, this really works with lift and elasticity. True Story. You have to use it regularly, but if you build it into your routine you will be pumped.
Slip Pure Silk Caramel Pillow Cases. I have talked about these before- When I discovered these a few years ago, they really changed the way that I slept. My face finally stopped getting the terrible creases that come from side and stomach sleeping. My only regret is that I was already 40 when I started LOL! Also, I admit that I have tried some of the cheaper versions, and for me they have not worked as well (too thin, not enough “slip” for my skin to not catch on it and the fabric gets too hot) so I am happy to pay the extra money for the real thing. It’s a nice bonus that they are on sale this year, because I would pay full price.
Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale Teen Finds. Pia is a few weeks shy of 13, so I think we can upgrade from tween to teen. Pia informed me that this year, for school it will be all about comfy sweats and cute jewelry- the sweats are to tolerate the long hours of sitting around the house (I get it) and the jewelry is a way to spruce thing up and have a bit of style on the endless hours of zoom classes and facetime and house partying with your friends. So long elaborately styled outfits, and hello comfort everything!
Here are some adorable little well priced pieces of jewelry that are great for everyday wear.
Madewell flower etched jewelry
Mini Initial Kate Spade Necklace
Pave star and lightning bolt jewelry
Here are aa couple cozy finds she was interested in, and she also picked out lots of the t-shirts from above for layering with the sweaters:
Top Shop Cable Stitch cropped sweater in Cream. Pia loves it and I approve, so we already have a win!
Live In Jogger Pants. Upgraded sweatpants!!
Live In High Waist Leggings. These pants from Zella last, are great quality and don’t pill. I have some too and they have outperformed much more expensive brands that I own.
Cotton Blend Sweater Hoodie in Grey Light Heather. Pia loved this and it looks soft and comfortable and at least it’s not cropped!
Barefoot Dreams Fuzzy Socks 2 pack She has abandoned slippers and just shuffles around in giant fuzzy socks- might as well be nice ones.
Cozy Chic Barefoot Dreams Blanket. With On-line school, I found that Pia spent more time than ever in her room, or tucked away in some cozy nook in the house with her laptop. I want her to be comfortable wherever we rent a house and make her own little nest in her new room. I think that this blanket will be a very welcome addition for her!
32 ounce Hyrdoflask with straw lid. I guzzle from the 40 ounce size all day, but Pia and Coco prefer this slightly smaller (and admittedly cuter) version with the straw. I get it and if it gets them drinking lots of water, I am all in!
That’s it. Much less and perhaps less exciting than usual, but functional!
