Punch has always been something that I find to be incredibly sweet and nostalgic and totally festive. Even though I rarely do the whole punch bowl and ladle thing, I often serve punches in big pitchers or decorative drink canisters for parties and even small casual gatherings. I love how pretty they tend to be and also how easy it makes things for me! (It’s very serve-yourself friendly, right?!)
This gorgeous Blood Orange Blackberry Rum Punch is something I made for a really fun photo shoot I did here for Where Women Cook (I can’t wait for you guys to see it this June!) It was really just meant to be in the background, but it was so pretty and so delicious that I had to share it with you. Plus the blood orange season is almost over and I had to share at least one more recipe with you that celebrates the beautiful citrus.
And what better way to do it than with a cocktail!? This one takes that same sweet citrus, bubbly slightly sweet blackberry soda and rum. Lots of rum. But the kick of fresh lime juice ties everything together for a delicious effervescent punch that is great eye candy as well! Drink up!
- 1 cup chilled blood orange juice
- 4 (12 ounce) chilled natural blackberry sodas (I used IZZE brand)
- 1 cup rum
- ¼ cup fresh lime juice
- 1 cup fresh blackberries
- 1 blood orange thinly sliced
- pansies to garnish (optional)
- n a large pitcher filled with ice combine all of the ingredients. Stir gently to combine.
- Add several blackberries and an orange slice to each glass and pour the punch into the glasses. Garnish with a pansy if desired and serve immediately.

I’m pretty certain no one makes a more beautiful cocktail than you, Heather!
I NEED to drink it this weekend!!!!
Can you use vodka instead?
Absolutely Taryn!
It looks so beautiful! I love drink recipes that allow the hostess to not have to run around the kitchen while everyone else sips casually.
1) These look amazing!
2) What kind of rum works best? White, gold, dark, spiced?
I like dark rum in this recipe- thanks!
Beautiful drink! Where did you get the optional flowers? Thanks!!
They were in my garden!
Where can I find those glasses?!
Hi Jazzmine- I got them at ANthropologie!
Where is the best place to find Blood Orange juice? I found Sanpellegrino Blood Orange Sparkling Fruit Beverage, but I didn’t know if the sparkling blood orange juice would be good with the blackberry soda. Is there a particular brand of blood orange juice that you use?
Victoria- you could fresh squeeze it, I found mine at the grocery store- but it’s definitely a specialty item. I think the san pellegrino sparkling soda would be awesome with the blackberry soda!
Please add me to your email list. I need more gluten free recipes!
Thank you Michelle!
Can you skip the rum for a teen party? Thank you!
Absolutely Josie! It will be delicious without it!
Do you think Vodka would work too? I’m allergic to Rum. Where do you find Blood Orange Juice?
Absolutely you could Heather! I found it at my local whole foods, you could of course juice it yourself or if in a pinch, just use regular orange juice and garnish with blood orange!
I found the IZZE brand but it’s sparkling water, not soda. Will this do?
Yes Deniel! I think its the same thing!
I am so glad I’ve come across this!
Sounds like a wonderful drink and I cannot wait to serve at my dinner party… unfortunately, all of my guests don’t drink alcohol….
How do I make this punch without the rum?
Hi Tatiana! Just omit the rum, it will still be delicious!
I made this drink last weekend, with a few changes!!! Instead of rum, I used vodka! and instead of blood orange juice, I used apple juice. and instead of blackberries, I used blueberries. and I must say, it was MUCH better. THANK YOU FOR THE RECIPE, HEATHER!!!!
I made this for Halloween and it was a HIT! Easy to make, beautiful color, and very tasty! Will definitely be making again!!
Do you think San Pellegtino sparkling blood orange would work
Yes! Absolutely!
What kind of rum do you use?
I like Kraken!
Spiced Kraken?
Hi Heather, I’m looking forward to all your great recipes!
looks beautiful! The recipes I like to drink, these recipes make the hostess do not have to run in the kitchen, and everyone else drinks it casually.
Thank you for sharing, this is exactly what I’ve been looking for! It looks delicious and perfect for Hallowe’en. I particularly like the pansy garnish, both pretty and edible. Cheers!
Hi – do you think using Tequila instead of Rum would work?
YES!
