Fudgesicles
When I was a kid, I used to love the summer. Not just because it meant no school, and long days playing outside- but also because it meant popsicles. My mom did not do “junk food” (read: sugar) but somehow popsicles seemed to have escaped that nasty title. So our freezer was stocked during the warm months with big sticks (cherry-pineapple), the generic twin pops and of course, fudgesicles.
Smooth and creamy with truly only a hint of chocolate flavor, fudgesicles are one of my most favorite and most nostalgic summer treats. This version is amped up with a darker, richer chocolate flavor that comes from more milk (less water) and darker (higher cocoa %) chocolate. If you are having a chocolate craving, and you need something cool, this will get the job done.
And if you want to spice things up a bit, you can add peanut butter (did that- it was good) marshmallows (think kids), bananas, nuts, anything goes with chocolate, right?
A few months back, with the promise of summer on the horizon, I made an impulse purchase at the grocery store. I bought a “popsicle maker.” Not molds, (which I have, love and use) but a maker that produces almost instant gratification for those of us with no patience and a burning sweet tooth. It is called a ZOKU? Have you seen them? Your ZOKU lives in the freezer and then when you are ready, you just pour in juice or the making of a fudgesicle, and a few minutes later, out pops a perfect popsicle! I happen to think it is really cool- which is why I am going to send one of you a ZOKU popsicle maker, because I think you will really enjoy it too. (By the way- this is not endorsed- I just think it is cool, so it’s my treat to you!)
Here is another “rainbow” pop that Pia and I made last weekend.
Coco prefers lemonade pops. And rum raisin ice cream……

Fudgesicles, (makes 6 )
-1 cup whole milk
-2/3 cup chocolate pieces (I used 72% cocoa)
-1/3 cup sugar
-1/3 cup water
-1 pinch kosher salt
-2 Tbs half and half
1) In a small sauce pan, combine everything but the half and half.
2) Bring the ingredients to a simmer (not a boil) over low heat while whisking.
3) When the chocolate and sugar is completely disinigrated and smooth (about 3 minutes) remove the pan from the heat.
4) Pour the mixture into a glass bowl.
5) Whisk in the half and half.
6) Refrigerate the mixture until cold or overnight.
7) Place the mixture in your ZOKU, or into popsicle molds and freeze until frozen solid.
8) Enjoy!

I LOVE this post! Perfect for summer.
I LOVED the push pops, but now wonder what the heck i was thinking because they are not my thing… i am more of a fudgesicle girl now!!
I love the rum raisin ice cream gobbler! For me, it was orange sherbet from Friendly’s after picking berries with my mom (who was also a “no junk food in the house” mom).
MY FAVORITE WAS CHOCOLATE DAZZLES! VANILLA ICE CREAM ON A STICK COVERED IN CRUNCHY ? SOMETHING WITH CHOCLATE ICE CREAM ON THE INSIDE……I STILL LOVE THEM!!! THANKS FOR THE MEMORY!
Hi, Heather! Glad to have found your blog! Fudgesicles are my favorite summer treat, too – we just finished a box off yesterday. I’ll be trying this recipe! And thank you for entering me in the giveaway. =)
I used to love it when the Good Humor man drove around our neighborhood in his truck and I would always get a Toasted Almond bar.
There is a certain pack of popsicles like “carnival flavors” or something, and they have bubble gum flavored popsicles. My FAVORITE!
Christine, do you mean this one? I know them as chocolate eclairs. http://images.mylot.com/userImages/images/postphotos/1922354.jpg
I LOVED those too, ALWAYS my choice from the ice cream truck!!

YES, JEN, THAT’S THEM! -LOVE THEM AND HEATHER SINCE YOUR LAST CONTEST FOR THE ICE CREAM MACHINE, WHICH I DID NOT WIN (SHUCKS) NO MATTER, I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT ONE FOR MYSELF (I LOVE IT) AND ACTUALLY TODAY AM HAVING AN ICE CREAM CONE DAY AT WORK SINCE I HAD A FREEZER FULL OF ALL SORTS OF DIFFERENT ICE CREAM AND NEEDED TO SHARE SOME!!!!!THANKS FOR THE RECIPES.
Christine- that is so cool! Your co-workers will loove you! Last summer I had people to dinner and got so chatty that I royaly burned dessert- well, instead I pulled out 7 pints of homemade ice cream in different flavors, some bowls and spoons and plopped it all on the table. Everyone “sampled” to their hearts content and it was one of my most “successful” dessert experiences! (plus it justified my ice cream making addiction)
The Tollhouse “chipwich” cookie ice cream sandwich. Reminds me of disney world.
We love to make pudding pops, my kids would love this.
It was either Eskimo Pies or Orange Creamsicles. Yumm.

Fudgesicles are the big favorite here too! those and dreamsicles!
My family would love a Zocu!
Oh Heather! I heart Fudgesicles! They are divine. I have been wanting one of the Zokus so here’s to hoping I win! 🙂
My mother made frozen banana halves on sticks dipped in a carob coating and rolled in walnuts. I still make them, double dipping them in white and dark chocolates. I have four kids with four different “roll” favorites: chopped cranberries, peanuts, slivered almonds, and one prefers them dipped in chocolate-period. Glad I found this site today; it’s a treasure trove!
Orange creamsicles! I have been looking for simple popsicle molds all summer and they are no where to be found near me. Why, I don’t know, but perhaps because this ZOKU thing is really what I need…
