If by any chance you caught my segment the other day, or happened to read up on my Silver Holiday Décor Ideas, you may have heard me mention something about a cocktail. A “snowball” martini to be specific.
This is a drink that I thunk up a few years ago when I had a surprise Birthday dinner for my hubby. It was in January, and the theme of the table was much like the one that I did in my segment the other day- wintery, frosty and kinda glam.
This martini fits the bill on all accounts. I know it is still November, but I suspect some of you are already in the snowy mood, and anyone thinking ahead to Holiday parties should know about this. Also it is 11/11/11 today!! CRAZY. I need a drink just to digest that.
It involves cotton candy. I know that sounds crazy and high maintance, but I assure you it was easy as pie. I bought a machine at Toys R Us for $35, and have gotten a ton of use out if it. In fact, besides for unusual cocktail making, I am going to spin tiny cotton candy poofs on paper straws for Coco’s 2nd Birthday next week. Super cute.
Plus, even is you do spend 5 extra minutes (which is like nothing compared to how much people will freak out when you make this for them!) making the white cotton candy, it will be worth it.
I just pour plain old table sugar in this machine and this stuff comes out looking like a legitimate snowball, don’t you think?
Then comes the booze. Weird booze. Whipped Cream flavored vodka kind of booze.
I actually thought it was going to be disgusting. But good news! Turns out it’s not gross at all- it freaking great. Especially when paired with tart fresh lemon juice and poured over this dose of sweetness.
You can make the sugar rims days ahead of time by simply rubbing the edge with lemon juice and then gently pressing it into a dish full of sugar or non-perils like I used.
Snowball Martini, makes 1
-A Martini glass, rimmed with sugar or white non-perils
-A “ball” of white cotton candy
-2 shots Whipped Cream flavored Vodka
-1 shot glass of fresh squeezed lemon juice
1) In a martini shaker filled with ice cubes, put in 2 shot glasses of whipped cream vodka and one shot glass of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
2) Shake well.
3) Strain over the cotton candy, “melting” the snowball and infusing the cocktail with sweetness.
yeah, that should give you the idea.

I so could not have a cotton candy machine in my house. I would be making it, and eating it, all. day. long! I love the stuff!
lol! I thought the same thing! I promise, it would make it’s way to the basement soon enough 🙂
Wow! I think I have found my new favorite drink! My favorite has been a Key Lime Martini, which i love because of the tart lemon/lime flavor infused with cream, SO this is right up my alley! Thank you for being so creative and sharing this 🙂
Oh my- I gave never ever heard of such a thing! but i love key lime, so I may have to look into that!
This drink is so cute, it deserves a party of its own! So creative!
This is GENIUS – I’m off to Toys R Us today to get one of these puppies for holiday cocktails – and to make the foie gras on a stick wrapped in cotton candy a la The Bazaar!
YES!!!! nothing says the holidays like liver in cotton candy! lol!
oh my gosh -i LOVE this!! it is so flashy!!!
How fun is this!?
Oh my, I need your creative genes!!
So creative, Heather!
So festive and fun!
This is such a great idea. Love that you use the cotton candy & the sprinkles on the rimmed glass. Your hubs is a lucky guy 🙂
lol! my hubby was lucky long before I started putting sprinkles on his glasses- but then again, I am very lucky too 🙂
So creative and wonderful! See, adults can have fun with cotton candy too. By the way, I watched your video from the news on your sidebar and loved it. You did a great job. We never get to hear bloggers talk so it was funny to hear your voice finally.
that’s funny! I guess I hadn’t thought about it. Hopefully my manly voice and witches cackle wasn’t too much of a turnoff! lol!
You are so brilliant, Heather! LOVE this idea so much!!! How on earth do you do it all?! I think I need to make these for my holiday party this year. My guests will go crazy! And hopefully, not jacked up on sugar crazy.
Wrong! hopefully they WILL be jacked up on sugar!! (and having the time of their lives!) I crashed a lovely Halloween party with my sister where they were just coincidentally serving those goul-tini’s I made with the poprocks (more candy) and people were having a great time! The other cool thing if you wanted to do these for a Halloween party is that you could literally rim all of the glasses in sugar and make the cotton candy snowballs the day ahead of time and just line em up. However, unless you are crazy like me, or a massive martini drinker, that may involve renting martini glasses- but the good news would be you don’t have to wash them afterwards!
by the way Marianne- I could ask you the same!! Your blog is GORGEOUS and totally inspiring. I come stalk it often. Every time I see your name I remember to pop over!
I have a question regarding your comment to make the cotton candy a day ahead of time and put it in the glass. I made ice cream cones stuffed with colored cotton candy a day ahead of an Easter Dinner…they were too cute at that time….the next day they kinda shrunk and semi-hard. Couldn’t use them. Now, I did use the cotton candy that comes in a bag…maybe the homemade/hand spun candy holds up better. Did you ever try doing this a day-ahead? Love the idea.
Hey Lexy- I actually said that you could do the sugared rims for the glasses the day before and they will hold up nicely- but I agree with you in that cotton candy has to be made on-demand or it will shrivel up with moisture!
That is SO cool, Heather! And that cotton candy machine is just too much fun. 🙂
thanks Kathy!!
Oh my, that is a celebration drink if I ever saw one. Love the snowy white theme!
This is so creative! And it looks so very good as well. Lemon & Whipped Cream Vodka? Kinda vanilla lemony? Sounds great.
I would never have put this together, and it’s so pretty. If I went to a party and they had this, I would be so very impressed. How fun!
thanks Jen!
that is one sexy looking cocktail! Yum!
Hello, can any body assist me how to download this video tutorial from this website, I have watched and listen it at this time but want to down load it.
Can you actually buy whipped cream flavoured vodka or did you infuse this yourself? Plus, what are non-perils? I would LOVE to make this. It’s sensational
Thanks Tara! Yes- they sell this flavor of whipped cream and non-perils re just sprinkles! Have fun!
