This is a quick and easy technique for dressing up Summer’s easiest dessert: Ice cream cones!

By dipping basic sugar cones in melted chocolate and garnishing them you majorly dress up this very simple dessert.

We are little oinky oinkies around here, so more nights than not we have dessert. And if it is not something fresh and easy like a fruit crisp, rustic crostata or a simple cake, then it is http://www.heatherchristo.com/cooks/2010/08/10/peach-ice-cream/ or sorbet. (I tend to compulsively stock the freezer with different flavors of the homemade stuff all summer).

I have even done this for dessert for dinner parties, which is usually met with great joy by guests- everyone likes an ice cream cone! And a platter full of these cones, which can be dipped in white, milk or dark chocolate and garnished with any type of sprinkle, candy or chopped nuts, make the dessert that much more wonderful.

This is how you make these cones:

Chocolate Dipped Cone

For 12 sugar cones, you need to melt 4 ounces of chocolate in a bowl in the microwave until just melted and very smooth. Then let the chocolate cool to room temperature while stirring frequently. Prepare a sheet of wax paper, and assemble all of your garnishes before you start dipping your cones.

When you dip the cones, just get the top inch or so and twist the cone so that the chocolate spreads evenly around the outside of the cone.

Gently lay the cone on the wax paper, sprinkle with the garnish and let sit up to overnight while the chocolate firms up completely.

I store these in a Ziploc bag until ready to use.
