Helllllllooooo loooooover……
Oh, excuse me. I was talking to my soup.
My velvety, tomatoey, luscious, creamy, SPIIIIICYYYYYY soup. Topped with fresh, sweet crab, and tiny crunchy mustard seeds.
It’s beautiful, delicious, and seriously spicy. Just the way I like it. (If you are less interested in feeling the burn, just cut down or omit the jalapeno’s.)
I will be slurpin on this stuff all day long. And maybe tonight while I watch MY FIRST EVER REAL LIVE TELEVISION SHOW!!! AHHHHHHHEEEEWHOOOO!!!!!
Ok. Now I have calmed down. My kids will go “Oh, there’s mommy!” and then they will go right back to playing barbie’s. But I will force my husband to watch it laptop free and soak up each moment without dozing off. Not that he will want to, because it will be gripping and fascinating and most importantly heart-warming. I am actually being serious. It is a really sweet show. Um, and informative- because it is all about DIY!
Read this post if you have any questions about what is going down on my first (of many!!) DIY “Rescue my Renovation” episodes. (Check your local programming– I think it is 9pm ET and 6pm PT)
Please don’t make fun of my hair or makeup which will be obviously terrible and very DIY (ha! Get it?)
Also, Rachel at RachelCooks.com was kind enough to let me blab on about what “A Day in the Life” loloks like for me. If you are interested in what that madness looks like head on over!
To make this Spicy Tomato Crab Soup, this is what you do:
In a large heavy pot, add the olive oil and the onion and sweat for 5 minutes over medium heat.Add the tomatoes, red peppers and jalapeno peppers ( 1 for a little spicy, two for a lot spicy!) and stir to combine.
Add the water and simmer with the lid on for 20 minutes over low heat.
Puree the soup on high until smooth (working in batches if you need to.) Return the soup to the pot and re-heat. Gently stir in the cream and then season to taste with the salt. Dish up the soup and top with a clump of fresh crab meat and garnish with a little fresh herb and a tiny sprinkle of mustard seeds.

Oh and, slurp me.
This soup just makes my stomach do backflips? Don’t worry that stranger invading your fridge in the wee hours of the morning will just be me, scouring for the remains of this soup. YUM!!
This sounds remarkable! I’ve been trying to think of something to put on it for a veggie version. Maybe some smokey cheese? I don’t have that cable channel and it’s kinda driving me nuts.
What a deliciouss soup – totally inviting esp with that crab on top. I am so glad I came from Rachel’s blog. Loving your space and still cant get over that kitchen. good luck on your show. I dont get that channel 🙁
Your pictures make my mouth water. Delicious.
This looks amazing! I love all those beautiful tomatoes and of course, the crab!
I actually just made this and thought it turned out great! I saw garlic in the ingredients, but not mentioned in the instructions, so I just tossed it in with everything else. Also, I pureed mine in the blender in 2 batches ( I halved the recipe) and then found that I had to run it through a strainer to remove the seeds and the pieces of tomato and pepper skins that were left. I just wasn’t sure if you did yours that way or if you just have a better blender than mine that got all those bits and pieces pureed all the way for you! 🙂
Looking forward to this for supper in a bit. The flavor when I was tasting for salt in just fantastic! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Hi Tracy- I didn’t run mine through the strainer? I use a vita mix which is indeed a great blender and gets things very smooth, but I usually am ok with a more rustic result because I am too lazy to use the strainer!! But I bet your strained version was very nice in texture! I will fix the garlic typo- thank you!
I don’t care if its sunny and 85 – I want this soup!!
Saw this recipe on Pinterest and can’t wait to try it! Sounds amazing and right up my alley. Couple things: I didn’t see an update about when to add the garlic. Do you add it with the onions at the beginning? Also, what green herb do I see sprinkled on top of the soup in your pic?
Can’t wait to go check out more of your website!!
Sorry- garlic goes in with onion-(I will fix that!) and then I just used some trader Joes micro greens on top!
This looks delicious! Is there any specific type of tomato you recommend???
I would just say any type of fresh tomato that is RIPE or in season or a good quality canned tomato. Hope you enjoy Christina!
