My sister said these look like little kids made them. She’s right, they totally do. But kids know what they like, right? Chocolate, frosting and candy. That should sum up the trifecta of perfect Christmas Cookies, yeah?
These are soft chewy chocolate and peppermint cookies covered in pink buttercream frosting and sprinkled with a dusting of candy cane “snow”. They may be a little janky in the looks department, but boy are they delicious. And frankly- very popular! We had a hoppin’ Christmas party this last weekend, and let me tell you, these were the first variety to disappear. And I will tell you why: Because they look like little kids made them.
Now, speaking of that Christmas Party, I have a little hangover that I am trying to “rest” off on the airplane to New York while I write this, so I may have to keep it short and sweet today. But! If I can solve a few technical difficulties, I will be posting my “Christmas Decoration House Tour” next!
By the way, you know what would be really great? If this airplane had some piping hot pizza they could send right over…..
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare 2 sheet pans with silpats or parchment paper.
In the bowl of a standing mixer, cream together the butter and the sugar until fluffy. Add the eggs and the peppermint extract and beat until well combined.
In a separate bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients and then add them to the batter.
Combine the ingredients well and then gently mix in the chocolate chips.
Scoop the cookie dough out onto the sheet pans, leaving room for them to spread.
Bake the cookies at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Remove the and set aside to cool. Continue with remaining cookie dough.
When the cookies have cooled, make the peppermint frosting: In the bowl of a standing mixer combine all of the ingredients. Whip them on high until you have a fluffy pale pink frosting.
Spread the frosting on the cookies and sprinkle immediately with the candy cane dust.

Let’s see the bling! Can’t wait to see your Christmas decorations, Heather! i am here in Paris finishing my patisserie degree at LCB and have to admit, am a little homesick for some good ol’ American Christmas festivities!
You’re gonna have to stop making your sweets look so scrumptious. Now I’ll just have to bake these along with those ridiculous gingerbread muffins! Honestly, I don’t even care that I won’t be fitting into my jeans anymore after a couple of weeks of your treats.
I don’t care who made them. I just need them in my mouth, stat.
I thought my holiday cookie list was complete, but not now! I HAVE to add these!
These are lovely! I could so see my granddaughters having a ball making these. Smashing peppermints and sprinkling on top, even the three year old would feel quite accomplished! My latest obsession is the Korean television show Boys Over Flowers on Netflix. The porridge served looks amazing and I bet could knock heck out of a hangover. Have you ever made any?
Ahhhh! Too cute. Where were you when I had my cookie swap yesterday!?
So pretty! I love these flavours too!
These are so fun Heather & I LOVE the pink!
This is so clever and I love that pink frosting!! It makes the cookie pop!
The cookies sound so good and they look amazing!
I think they look great! But more importantly, they sound holiday perfect – so yum!!
I think this are adorable!
These MAY be the most AMAZING cookies ever. My husband doesn’t like peppermint, so I made a 2nd batch with peanut butter cream cheese frosting. Both were incredible!! Great recipe.
Thank you Jessica!!
These cookies are delicious and super easy! I made them to take to the teachers at my son’s school, but I may have to make another batch for us!
I have made this recipe. I think I am going to make these for my cookie exchange,
Could you make these into bars? Press them out in a cookie sheet? Hmmm…
I don’t know- but please let me know if you try!
New here. What is AP flour?
All Purpose Flour nancy- thanks!
These look great. Does the icing get hard so they can be stacked on top each other? Thanks!
