What are you guys doing for Valentines Day? It is funny how it becomes a lot about the kids when you are a parent. I am starting tomorrow off for them with these Berrylicious Smoothies and maybe some pancakes. Then I am heading to Pia’s class for her Kindergarten Valentines Day Party (how cute is that!?)
For dinner for the kids I will make these pizzas but with Gluten Free pizza crust for Pia and these brownie mug cakes with fresh raspberries for dessert. And then, by miracle or miracles, (and after all my whining) we got a babysitter. Now it’s not that I am just dying to go out on Valentines Day per se, but any parent knows- if you can get a babysitter- then TAKE the babysitter. I don’t care if we go grocery shopping together as long as we are ALONE and when I get home, the kids are asleep- you know what I mean? But I think Pete actually planned something, and he hasn’t told me what it is- pretty Romantic! (or he doesn’t know what we are doing and he is scrambling- which would also ensure secrecy!)
But for anyone staying in, or maybe after we go out and the kids are asleep, then this is what I want. A Blood Orange Sorbet Champagne Sparkler, the best little Valentines Day Cocktail ever! Or is it a dessert? I guess it’s the best of both.
I ripped off this gorgeous drink I made last year at this time and made it all blood orangey. I get obsessed with blood oranges during this short little time that we have them.
For the blood orange sorbet, you could make it (I have a recipe in my book) or you can buy it- they have some great brands that make this flavor. The best part about it- is it has a distinct tartness with a hint of bitter- what it is not is overly sweet. So you can still taste the champagne. I also added some fresh squeezed blood orange, because well it’s kind of pink and really pretty.
Ok, have fun today- it’s a sweet and hokey little “holiday” and it is meant to make you smile! Tune in tomorrow for Saturday Stuff and Sunday for another delicious Allergy Free Recipe!
This is how you make these Blood Orange Sorbet Champagne Sparklers:
Cut 2 rounds off of one of the blood oranges, and then cut each of those in half for the garnishes. Set aside. Squeeze the juice of the rest of the blood oranges between 4 glasses.
Add scoops of the blood orange sorbet.
Fill the glasses with champagne. (and I just continue to top off the glasses until, well, the bottle is finished ☺)

These look so good! I love champagne. I drink my fair share 🙂 And I love how you frequently use it in your recipes!
Have fun going out. And yes ALWAYS take the babysitter. Duh. Parenting 101!
So cool and refreshing!
So pretty!! I want my Valentine to make this for ME!!
lol! me too Marla!
Such a pretty drink! Happy Valentine’s Day! xo
I’m with you Heather; I can not get enough of blood oranges during their (too) short season. This is gorgeous and easy; just how I like it. I do use Cava and Prosecco though…not so pricey that I have to wait until a special day to use them! 🙂
I mostly use prosecco too Barb, so much easier to justify!
Have any arguments about me submitting this on my twitter?
These look refreshing delicious! Blood orange sorbet..divine!
Swooning over this drink! I need to try this very, very soon!
That looks so good. I was most disappointed today at my local grocery store for advertising blood oranges and then not having any. They are one of my favorite citrus fruits and really wanted to make a fabulous sorbet with them. Maybe I’ll substitute some blackberry sorbet instead…
um, Renee- that sound AMAZING. I guarantee you, I will be doing that come August here!
Blood oranges and champagne, yummy. I was very disappointed when my local grocery store advertised blood oranges and then not having any. I was actually planning on making sorbet myself. Maybe I’ll use a blackberry sorbet instead…
Whoops! Did not mean to double post, my iPad kept crashing and I didn’t realize it went through the first time 🙁
