I don’t know how many of you are football fans? But for Seattle Seahawks fans, this was a day that will go down in history. All time BEST GAME EVER. There was heartbreak, aching disappointment, and then insane over-the-top-killing-it-AMAZING-plays happening. I cried like a baby when it was over (We Won by the way) and I saw our quarterback Russell Wilson crying.
Things have gotten so superstitious around here. Pete went to the game, so I decided to break tradition around here and go to my sisters with the little girls to watch the game. Well, that was a terrible idea. They have a large and very regular crew over there, and I think we were messing up the juju. The first half was such a disaster that people were taking “emergency” tequila shots and changing their shirts. I told them it was just me. So I seriously made the girls get packed up and we went the 6 blocks home and watched the second half in our usual spot. And as crazy as that sounds, we won. And how many other weirdo Hawks fans were doing the same insane stuff!? In the end nothing matters except for that we are going to the Superbowl for the second year in a row.
QUESTION: Would you rather go to the Superbowl if you could get the tickets? Or watch it from the comfort of your own couch?
So now, basking in the afterglow of our massive championship win, I want Chinese food. So I am making this Sesame Glazed Beef and Broccoli right now so that when my hubby shows up from his long wet, whiskey fueled fan day there is something hot and delicious to get into. And this dish is perfect for that. Hot on the heels of my Kung Pao Chicken perfection 2 weeks ago- this will not disappoint (much like the Seahawks). Enjoy!
Recipe: Sesame Glazed Beef and Broccoli
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (we used gluten free)
- 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 pound top round steak, very thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, minced or grated
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 cups broccoli florets
- ½ cup beef broth
- toasted sesame seeds and steamed rice for serving.
Instructions
- In a large Ziploc, combine the sesame oil, sugar, soy sauce and vinegar, red pepper flakes and cornstarch and add the steak. Marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- In a large heavy pan or skillet (or wok) over high heat, let the pan get smoking hot.
- Add the vegetable oil and the ginger, garlic and broccoli and sauté for 1-2 minutes.
- Add the beef and the sauce and broth and sauté for another 3 minutes until the beef is cooked through, the broccoli is tender and the sauce has slightly thickened. Serve hot with steamed rice and toasted sesame seeds.

Dinner perfection! Looks amazing Heather!!
Ohhhhh dude, uh huh. Diggin’ this.
Thanks Bev!!
go Hawks, what an amazing comeback! We had the superstitions here also, hubby changed his shirt the first half and I was outside with the dogs when the Hawks finally got their first two touchdowns so I spent the rest of the game in the backyard (when that final td was scored the whole I could hear cheers all the way down to Century Link!).
Angie- that makes me DIE laughing!!! Us hawks fans are NUTS!
This is a gorgeous meal! So delicious!!!
I watched that game last night and it was a nail-biter!! Holy cow!! Congrats to you guys 🙂 This looks like the perfect dinner!!
Thanks Julie!!
Congrats on the win!!! What an exciting time to be a Seahawks fan! I’m not even into football that much, and I was absolutely floored by that game. Amazing.
And what a beautiful meal!!! Super sauce, which I love in Asian food!
Thank you Nicole! It is hard not to be a hawks fan- they are such scrappers- I love them!!
What a rollercoaster of emotions! And a relieved win!
This looks delicious! Great way to celebrate
Total rollercoaster! Thanks Rebecca!
Really? Is that even a question? LOL! If someone gave me tickets I’ve be there! Warm weather and cheering on our HAWKS, you bet!
Haha! I was serious Sheila! I am kind of a freaky homebody! I think maybe I would prefer to stay home! Pete is pushing me to go, and I think probably not… Terrible, huh?
I heard you about staying home but being with the 12’s sounds like something not to be missed.
BTW fixed the broccoli beef tonight, delish!
Really craving this for dinner!!
When does the broth go in? I don’t see it in the instructions…..
Hey there Heather! First time commenting on your blog. 🙂 I was scrolling through your recipes yesterday to make something delicious and hearty for dinner and when I saw this, a light bulb went off. It’s such a great recipe! I actually made this vegan by swapping out the beef for seitan. I also used vegetable broth instead of beef broth and turned up the volume on the spice by adding one teaspoon of red pepper.(I also threw some Mama Lil’s peppers in the mix… yes, we are gluttons for heat.). Long story short — it was a hit with Z! Thank you for all of your amazing ideas. I love looking through here and discovering new things to do with food.
WOO HOO Sonia! LOVE that you guys got all crazy with the Seitan! Maybe I should try that- I have to admit that I am very curious (and a little scared!)
Thank you for the comment love 🙂
Honestly this was so yummy
