These are incredibly indulgent, rich and melt in your mouth delicious!
These are dark fudgy brownies, slathered in a thick coating of whipped espresso frosting.
The brownies are laced with strong, dark espresso, which just enhance the rich chocolate flavor and moist texture.
I imagined that these would be an amazing treat for your loved ones on Valentines Day. Great to bring to friends, tuck into lunch boxes or to make for your family for dessert.
Enjoy!

Add the melted chocolate to the batter and mix well.
Combine the dry ingredients and chocolate chips in a separate bowl.
Add the dry ingredients to the mixer bowl and combine until you have a thick batter.
Pour the batter into the parchment lined pan and spread evenly.
Bake the brownies at 350 degrees for 50 minutes .
Let the brownies cool completely before frosting them.
While the Brownies are cooling, make the frosting.
For the Espresso Frosting:
Whip together the butter, espresso, powdered sugar and whipping cream until you have a fluffy frosting.
When the brownies are cool, spread the frosting over the top of the brownies in a thick, even layer.
Put the brownies into the freezer to chill for about an hour.
Pull the brownies out by the parchment paper and trim the edges off and slice the brownies into squares or rectangles.
Sprinkle the brownies with colored sugars if desired.
Enjoy!
(I keep these in the refrigerator if they are eaten over the course of a few days, and they freeze really well!)

Saving and making ASAP. I love espresso!
These look AMAZING! YUM! Perfect decadent treat to make for Valentine’s Day!
You’re my kind of girl. I always lace my brownies with espresso. No other way to go. 🙂
you make everything look so darn pretty, Heather! I wish you lived closer so we could hang in the kitchen together!
that’s so sweet Susan! me too!
These look breathtaking…almost too pretty to eat. If you put one in front of me, though, I am sure I’ll gobble it all up!
These look so delicious. I have a question…..for me they would be perfect, but if I was making them for a class Valentine party, is the espresso/coffee taste too strong, and is there something it could be replaced with? They look amazing!
Not too strong at all! Especially in the brownies. I don’t think it is strong in the frosting either, but you could always substitute a few drops of vanilla extract, or mint extract. But for the record- my kids (2 and 4) loved them with the espresso!
oh that icing just put these over the top!!
it really does Cheryl! you have that rich fudgey brownie and that fluffy frosting

I love that they are fudgy! I don’t care for light or cakelike brownies. I mean, make cake if you want cake.
I want heavy, rich, dark, chewy, fudgy when it comes to brownies.
These look right up my alley.
Thanks for never disappointing us! I can always count on your recipes to work and deliver as you say they will!
I’m with you Jen 🙂
Thank you so much 🙂
Soo I just realized that I forgot to buy cocoa powder!! Do you think that it would taste fine without it?
OH NO!!!!!! probably not as good, and not sure about the science on the baking without the extra powder. But if you try it, please let me know 🙂
Does the recipe call for brewed espresso/coffee or powder?
Brewed!
